While CIPE has supported programs in Pakistan in the past, this is the first
time it has established an “on the ground” presence in this strategic country.
CIPE’s primary role in Pakistan is to support its local partners’ efforts to
improve the business environment through advocacy and policy dialogue. CIPE
works with local market reform-oriented chambers of commerce and business
associations interested in supporting Pakistan’s emergence into the global
economy. It will also help the business community become more constructively
engaged in the policy debate shaping Pakistan’s economic future.
CIPE’s main activities are related to institutional capacity building. Core
areas of interest are:
The Center for International
Private Enterprise (CIPE) strengthens democracy around the globe through private
enterprise and market-oriented reform. CIPE is one of the four core institutes
of the National Endowment for Democracy and a non-profit affiliate of the U.S.
Chamber of Commerce. Since 1983, CIPE has worked with policymakers, business
leaders, and journalists to build the civic institutions vital to a democratic
society. CIPE has crafted a unique set of development tools that are adaptable
to a variety of country conditions and that build the institutional capacity of
CIPE’s partner organizations: business associations, think tanks, private
foundations, and their constituencies. CIPE’s key program areas include
anti-corruption, advocacy, business associations, corporate governance,
democratic governance, access to information, the informal sector and property
rights, and women and youth.
