Focus Group Discussions on Model Economic Platform and SME Driven Taxation Model

The key objective of the project titled, “Improving Private Sector’s Voice in Preparation of Economic Platform” is to organize and document inputs from the private sector on desired economic reforms which can result in a reduction of cost of doing business,through a process of informed dialogue, and communicate the same to party secretariats and platform preparation committees. The key objective of the project titled, “Provincial Tax harmonization in Pakistan” is to make use of preliminary work conducted by CIPE and SDPI on this subject and to arrive at a tax harmonization methodology, through a multi-stakeholder dialogue that can be organized across provinces.



The focus group discussions on Model Economic Platform and tax harmonization was conducted on 22nd March 2017 in Karachi. It was attended by representatives from Sindh Revenue Board, advisor to Government of Sindh, Business Community, Leading Media Group and Think Tanks. The economic model discussion was chaired by Former Finance Minister, Syed Asad Ali Shah, Managing Partner, Delloite Pakistan.The session was attended and remarked by Honorable Governor Sindh Mohamamd Zubair.  The other session on tax harmonization was chaired by MNA Dr. Farooq Sattar and Moderated by Dr. Abid Q.Suleri, Executive Director SDPI. Dr. Vaqar Ahmed, Deputy Executive Director presented the taxation reforms model at the start of the discussion.
